The Heart Nebula is the massive DSO in this image and is about 7,500 light years from Earth. It contains many other objects. The Top right includes NGC896, referred to as the Fish-head Nebula. Merlotte 15 is structure in the centre and known as the Heart of the Heart. The clouds are sculpted by stellar winds and radiation from massive hot stars in the nebula's star cluster, Melotte 15. About 1.5 million years old, the cluster stars are scattered in this colourfull region, along with clouds of dark dust in silhouette against glowing atomic gas.
