The Sombrero Galaxy (M104) is a Lenticular Galaxy and is one of the most massive objects in the Virgo galaxy cluster.
This galaxy is a nearly edge-on. view from earth’s vantage point. M 104 has a bright nucleus and large central bulge, and a prominent dark dust lane that crosses in front of it.
The dark dust lane and the bright nucleus bulge lend this galaxy the appearance to a sombrero hat. The Sombrero Galaxy has a diameter of about 49,000 light-years and about 31 million light-years from Earth.
