The M42_Trapezium is the heart of the star forming region of the mighty M42 Orion Nebula. This image is a reprocessing project from data from 2004, in a collaboration between myself and Ken Crawford ( Rancho del Sol Observatory) and my fledging, Fort Erie Observatory. Ken and Rob Gendler, in another collaboration on this site, were imaging gurus and quite helpfull. So 22 years later, data recovery has a massive leap in detail and dynamic range! It's incredible to see how far processing power, calibration workflows, and sensor technology have come since the days of 8-bit saves and tight storage constraints. Again, the data is the same and back then this was captured using L/R/G/B/Ha/S2&O3 filters. is able to rebalance that data to reveal more detail and some colour bands show much more contrast than others.
