M31 The Andromeda Galaxy, is the nearest major galaxy to the Milky Way. It is a barred spiral galaxy located approximately 2.5 million light-years from Earth.

There is a significant chance that the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies will collide in about 4 billion years. This event may lead to the formation of a new, larger galaxy, potentially an elliptical or lenticular type.
